David Strafford is an experienced events professional and award-winning Higher Education lecturer / tutor, undertaking teaching, training, consultancy and event management work in the UK and internationally.

David has a wealth of experience of designing and delivering both face-to-face and online education courses and training programmes. He is currently a lecturer / tutor at universities in the UK, France, Switzerland and Romania.

  • David is an experienced event professional, with nearly 25 years in the events industry; he co-founded the Sheffield-based experiential events agency – Hopper Events Ltd
  • He is currently an Online Tutor at Falmouth University, on their MA Creative Events Management course. He also teaches a range of UG and PG courses at the University of Westminster; the International Management Institute in Luzern, Switzerland; the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France and at the American Hotel Academy in Brasov, Romania
  • David has completed the PG Cert in Learning and Teaching, a Masters degree in International Events & Conference Management and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
  • He is a Technical Member of IOSH, having gained a distinction in the NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety. He has written and regularly delivers his own “Working Safely at Events” one-day IOSH training course.
  • He has 10 years experience of lecturing at Higher Education level (UG and PG) in the UK at Sheffield Hallam University and was their Collaborative Course Leader at SHAPE in Hong Kong for Events, Hospitality and Tourism
  • He won six consecutive Sheffield Business School and two university-wide Sheffield Hallam University Inspirational Teaching Awards (in 2017 and 2019)
  • Prior to teaching, he was responsible for the entire events programme at the UK’s number one Students’ Union at the University of Sheffield for 11 years, which included managing the award-winning underground midweek clubnight The Tuesday Club
