Southampton University Students Union

David assisted Southamnpton University Students’ Union with the recruitment of a new Entertainments Manager, alongside creating the events budget and design of new term’s reopening intro weeks’ programme from June-August 2021. The work involved working and engaging with stakeholders from across the Union and the University, to create a new events programme and nightclub brand for the incoming and returning students.

Foundry, Victoria Hall, Sheffield

David successfully completed an evaluation project for Victoria Hall Conference Hall, externally evaluating the progress and success of their Heritage Lottery Grant project from December 2019 to March 2021. The project involved creating surveys, managing data, conducting interviews (face to face and online) and pulling together facts and figures to match against the HLF original project objectives.

Edinburgh University Students Association

In 2018 David, with colleague Mark Norman, provided a full audit of the health and safety operations of the Edinburgh Festival operations side of EUSA, which normally provide around 25-30 separate comedy and performance venues hosting daily shows at the festival. This project involved interviewing key staff and event stakeholders, researching data, creating policies and reviewing protocols, with a final report submitted with recommendations. 

Royal Welsh Agricultural Show: Safety Workshop

In November 2017, David, together with Mark Norman, hosted a Stakeholder Safety Workshop, facilitating discussion and action points, in the aftermath of the tragic death of James Corfield at the event in July 2017. Stakeholders present included members of the SAG, the police, fire, ambulance, licensing, volunteers, local businesses, local residents, the event managers, the venue and the family of James Corfield. Our role was to facilitate discussion in 4 key areas: traffic management, infrastructure, licensing and health & welfare, with a view to making positive progress and recommended steps to mitigate risk at future festivals so that the event could go ahead safely in 2018.
